THE WAY OF SANTIAGO BY SEA

In this new Camino created by Marly Camino, we want you to experience a unique and different way of doing the Camino de Santiago by sea, as the Apostle Santiago did centuries ago. And most importantly, the Travesía Náutica Xacobea is a new officially recognized way to obtain La Compostela.

The official requirement to obtain your Compostela is to sail 90 nautical miles and walk the last 6Km of the Portuguese Way to Santiago de Compostela. The pilgrim’s passport will be stamped at every port along the route.

Definitely, the coastline seen from the sea is incredible!

This route lasts 6 days, starting in Vigo and ending in Santiago.

Itinerary.

– Day 1: Welcome in Vigo.

No sailing on this day. In the morning we will have a welcome cocktail at the Real Club Nautico de Vigo where we will make the presentation, distribute the cabins and leave the luggage. The skipper will explain all the details of the boat and the crossing. Afterwards, we will continue with a great welcome lunch and a visit to the fantastic city of Vigo, where we will put the first stamp in the pilgrim’s passport.

– Day 2: Start of the Camino in Vela. Vigo-Baiona (22 nautical miles)

We will set off for Baiona to visit this beautiful fishing village, where we will be able to see its medieval fortress, its old town, and many other places.

– Day 3: Baiona-Sanxenxo (22 nautical miles)

We will have breakfast at the Yacht Club and leave the Bay of Baiona to set course for an impressive natural archipelago: the Cíes Islands, one of the most beautiful places in the country.

– Day 4: Sanxenxo-Pedras Negras (22 nautical miles)

We will depart for ONS Island (National Park), a small paradisiacal islet in front of the Pontevedra estuary. On this island we will take a hiking route that will lead us to caves made by the force of the Atlantic.

– Day 5: Pedras Negras-Vilanova de Arousa (24 nautical miles)

We sail to Arousa, the largest of the Galician estuaries, with a multitude of islets and submerged islands, natural beauty, capital of Albariño wine and province of the best seafood. Upon arrival in Cambados we will have dinner and wine tasting in one of the wineries in the area. End of the boat trip.

– Day 6: O’Milladoiro-Santiago (12 nautical miles + 6,4 Km) LAST STAGE OF OUR WAY!

We make the ascent of the Ulla River towards Padrón, a route where we will pass through 17 crossings of the Way of the Cross until we reach Puentecesures. In Padrón, where it is believed to have been the mooring point of the boat that carried the body of the Apostle Santiago, we will have a short visit. From O’Milladoiro we will start walking the last 6 kilometers of the Portuguese route to Santiago.
