Porto - Santiago

Walk along the most beautiful coastal stages of Galicia and Northern Portugal

On our Portuguese Coastal Camino we walk along the coasts of Portugal and Spain as well as enjoy amazing journeys by sea including one full stage done by boat. We will enjoy amazing coastal scenery, pristine sandy beaches, beautiful vineyards and winding rivers as we make our way to Santiago de Compostela. We will start our journey in Porto with a wonderful guided visit and Port wine tasting. Our Camino will begin at the coastal Portuguese town of Praia Angueiras from where we will walk 188 kilometers divided into 9 amazing walking stages with an additional stage done by boat. We have selected the finest accommodations for our Pilgrims, from spectacular Paradores to luxurious manor houses so you can enjoy the best of what both countries have to offer.

Meals

All breakfasts and all dinners are included in our Portuguese Coast Camino. We have carefully chosen every meals so you can have a taste of the most typical and delicious, local cuisine. Lunches are not included to provide more flexibility during your walk, we encourage you to try the local foods in the towns you will walk by or have lunch at the end of the daily stage.
Vegetarians, vegans, or those with a special diet (e.g. gluten-free) can always find suitable options. Just let us know beforehand and we will be happy to provide great alternatives.

Accommodation

We are sure you will absolutely love all the wonderful accommodations on our Portuguese Camino. We have personally selected all our accommodations to give you the best possible experience. During the Camino we will spend the night at wonderful National Paradores and the most charming Manor Houses. They are located in beautiful rural areas surrounded by lush, peaceful scenery to give you a complete cultural experience. All of our accommodations have en suite bathrooms. You can be sure to receive personalized attention and excellent service from the owners, who will make you feel right at home.

Walk at your own pace

Everyone walks at their own pace and you will be met by our guides and support vehicle at various checkpoints along each stage. At the checkpoints you can enjoy a snack, fruit and cold beverages and our guides will assist you in case you need anything else. We also offer assistance for any emergencies or simply to relieve muscular pain or cure blisters.

If for any reason you do not want to continue walking, our support vehicle is at your disposal. You won't have to worry about not finding your way as there will always be yellow arrows to point the way. You will never feel alone on the Camino as there will be other Pilgrims on the way. After the walk and lunch we will go back to the day's accommodation to freshen up and enjoy some well-deserved rest.

Before and After

Before: Our tour starts in the city of Porto. You can arrive a few days before the tour to enjoy the city if you’d like. We would be happy to help you with extra hotel reservations.

After: Our tour ends in Santiago de Compostela at around 1:00 pm on the last day. Transportation back to Porto or other cities is NOT included. We can offer advice about how to get to your next destination and assist you with additional hotel nights.

We offer optional add-on activities once the tour is finished like a one-day trip to Finisterre, culinary activities in Santiago and other wonderful cultural experiences. You can join one of our activities, stay in Santiago on your own, or finish your trip on the last day of the tour.

Means and Assistance

Vehicle and guide

A vehicle and guide for logistical support will be available during the entire route. It shall be of help not only for the pilgrims in transit but for the transport of luggage and to cover any other needs that might arise along the way. It will have fruits, snacks, water, medicine, first aid kits and everything necessary for unexpected situations.

Luggage transferred

The luggage will be transferred from one hotel to the next using the support vehicle. For the walk you can take a small/medium backpack for a camera, water bottle, and personal belongings. You can use the one we provide, or bring your own.

Mobile phones

Mobile phones with a spanish line will be handed out for the period of the tour for every 2 or 3 pilgrims. This will allow you to communicate with the driver or guides for any reason at all times. The number can also be given to family members back home to receive phone calls.

Pilgrim's Kit

We prepare you for your walk by sending you a packing list with recommendations on what to bring along on your trip, and provide a small backpack with famous Pilgrim’s Kit (Click here to view) that includes: Your Pilgrim's Passport, the shell, a Marly Camino program with reflections and waterproof Route Map, a waterproof pouch, notebook, snacks and more!

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Meeting in Porto

We meet on the first day at 3:00pm at the lobby of our hotel in the city of Porto. Our guides will greet you and then accompany you on a guided visit of the city, which includes a visit to a Port Wine cellar for a private tasting. In the evening we will meet again for a cocktail and a short presentation before enjoying a delicious welcome dinner.

Day 2

Praia Angeiras - Vila do Conde

We begin our Camino by crossing the wooden bridge over the Onda River to make our way to the beach. We will follow the Way along the beautiful Portuguese coast going by many quaint villages and beaches until we reach the town of Vila do Conde from where we will travel in our van to the town of Viana do Castelo.

Day 3

A Guarda - Monasterio de Oia
14 km / 8.7 mi

We will cross over into Spain to the coastal village of a Guarda visiting the majestic mount of Santa Tecla to get a beautiful panoramic view of the coast. We will then begin our Camino along the Spanish coast until we reach the town of Oia and its beautiful Monastery. After the stage we will be transferred to the coastal town of Baiona in our private van.

Day 4

Baiona - Vigo
22 km / 13.7 mi

Today we start our walk from the town of Baiona as we make our way to Vigo, the largest city in Galicia. We will walk along the Ria de Vigo and its beaches enjoying amazing views of the coast and passing by many picturesque towns along the way.

Day 5

Vigo - Redondela
19 km / 11.8 mi

Today our Camino will take us from the coast to join the inland Portuguese Camino at the town of Redondela. We will enjoy spectacular views of the Ria and the Cies islands before we reach the cove of San Simon and Redondela.

Day 6

Redondela - Pontevedra
21 km / 13 mi

Today we start our first stage along the inland Portuguese Camino. We will walk along forest paths and beautiful vineyards until we reach the town of Pontevedra.

Pontevedra - Armenteira
21 km / 13 mi

Today our stage will take us along the Spiritual Variant of the Portuguese Camino to the town of Armenteira. This route will take us along the Ria de Pontevedra and the Parish of Campañó, passing by many quaint villages and towns before finishing our stage in the Monastery of Armenteira.

Day 8

Armenteira - Vilanova de Arousa

Today's stage will take us along the banks of the Armenteira and Umia Rivers on ancient stone roads as we pass by beautiful landscapes dotted by vineyards and watermills until we reach the town of Vilanova de Arousa.

Day 9

Vilanova de Arousa - Padrón (by boat)

Today we will have the unique experience of doing a stage of the Camino by sea, as we retrace the journey of the Apostle's remains to Padrón. On this journey we will have the opportunity to relax and take in the amazing scenery. This is our last stage on the Spiritual variant of the Portuguese Camino.

Padrón - O Milladoiro

Today's stage will take us along beautiful paths along forests and vineyards as we get closer and closer to Santiago. Today we will end our stage just 6 kilometers from our goal in the town of O Milladoiro, from where we can see the Cathedral for the first time from the top of Agro dos Mostoiros.

O Milladoiro - Santiago de Compostela

Today is a very special and joyous day as we will finally arrive in Santiago! We start our stage early to arrive in Santiago in time for the Pilgrim's Mass at noon.

In the evening we will enjoy a very special farewell dinner and surprise.

Day 12

Guided visit in Santiago

To cultimate our Camino, a guided visit in Santiago awaits us in the morning, through the old city and its main monuments, squares. We will also visit the Cathedral and its historical evolution and visit its rooftop to enjoy the most spectacular view of the city. We end at about 1 pm. Your Camino through life begins.

Full-day Trip to Finisterre
Not Included in Price

You will need to extend your stay in Santiago by one or two nights to join this trip.
You meet your local guide in Santiago and, in our private van, head towards Muros, one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Spain, making a short stop in Alto de Paxareiras until we reach Ézaro & head to the famous Finisterre lighthouse. After breaking for lunch in Finisterre, we will drive back to Santiago.
