Camino de Fatima

Starting in Porto, we embark on a unique spiritual journey to the Sanctuary of Fátima, one of the world’s great Marian centers. We walk through the Portuguese countryside and live moments of prayer, candlelight processions and Eucharist, on a pilgrimage designed for those who wish to renew their faith, give thanks or pray for very special intentions.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

PORTO - COIMBRA

We will meet at 11:00 a.m. in the city of Porto. From there we will move to the beautiful city of Coimbra (home of one of the oldest universities in the world) where we will have an exquisite welcome lunch. Afterwards we will visit the Sister Lucía Memorial where we will receive our credentials for the Camino and our first seal.

Day 2

Stage 1: Coimbra (Cernache) - Conimbriga
8 km / 5 mi

Today we begin our first day of the pilgrimage! We will enjoy a pleasant walk starting in the town of Cernache and ending at the historic ruins of Conímbriga. We will then return to Coimbra where we will enjoy a wonderful guided tour in the afternoon with a local guide.

Day 3

Stage 2: Conimbriga - Rabaçal
11.5 km / 7.1 mi

On this second stage of our pilgrimage we leave the urban scenery and enter the rural world. We will walk the remains of the Luso-urban nucleus in Conímbriga at the start of our stage. We continue along Rio de Mouros walking by charming villages like Zambujal. Our final stop will be Rabaçal, a small village nestled into a breathtaking valley filled with vineyards and olive trees.

Day 4

Stage 3: Rabaçal - Ansiao
20.3 km / 12.6 mi

Today’s walk leads us through the municipalities of Penela and Ansiao and along the Rabaçal valley. We will walk through typical Sicó Mountain villages along the way immersed in the sublime karst landscape. We visit the village of Alborge with it's Church dedicated to Our Lady of the Conception. We will arrive in Ansião crossing the the River Nabão over the 17th century “Ponte da Cal” bridge. We will drive back to Condeixa to enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Day 5

Stage 4: Ansiao - Freixianda
23.5 km / 14.6 mi

Today's stage will go through a beautiful and densely-wooded area: the Inter-municipal Nature Reserve of Algarinho - Gramantina - Ariques, which houses the largest Iberian expanse of Portuguese Oak trees. The walk is dotted with "eyes of the thrush", springs of water from a deep well which turn into a stream that is painted white in springtime by watercress flowers. We cross the river Nabao and head into Freixianda where we finish the stage.

Day 6

Stage 5: Freixianda - Vale Travesso
21.4 km / 13.3 mi

On today’s walk, the landscape will be populated by olive groves, chícharo crops, and old water mills. We will start in Freixianda at the church dedicated to Our Lady of Purification. The route continues through fields and vineyards skirting the small villages of Aventeira and Seica. Our stage ends in the small village of Vale Travesso.

Day 7

Stage 6: Vale Travesso - Sactuary of our Lady of Fatima
19 km / 11.8 mi

Today we will cross the medieval town of Ourém surrounded by impressive views. Then we will walk the last section passing through the Parish of Fátima, the place where the three shepherd children were baptized, preparing us spiritually for our arrival at the majestic Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima.

Day 8

OUR LADY OF FATIMA
TRANSFER TO LISBON

Today we will enjoy a wonderful guided tour of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima where we will visit the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, the Chapel of the Apparitions and the town of Aljustrel, the place where the Virgin appeared before the 3 shepherd children.

We will enjoy a wonderful farewell lunch to celebrate our arrival in Fátima.
